UV Curable Inks

Megami Ink is a leading supplier of UV inks for today’s high speed presses that require immediate curing to increase productivity. Our latest UV inks are formulated for a wider variety of substrates including paper, plastic and metal. Responding to customer demand, and yet ever cognizant of our responsibility to environment, we have designed our UV MEGACURE inks for outstanding print quality and pro uction a vantages without neglecting the needs of our environment. With less down time in package printing, Megami’s UV curable inks are more cost and energy efficient. And, b cause we use non volatile solvents in their production, our UV curable inks are one more way we are passing along the beautiful colors of the earth to the next generation.

UV MEGACURE MW SERIES

Megami’s UV MEGACURE MW Series offers several significant advantages over conventional offset printing including.

Immediate ink curing. Allows today’s presses to run at higher speeds.

Superb rub resistance in package application.

Excellent ink tra  sfer. Our soft ink body delivers more ink mileage at less time and cost.

Environmentally frie  dly non-volatile solvents and energy efficient techniques.

Testing Method of Resistance and Fastness

Light Fastness:

Based on the result of light exposure test for printed specimen with Atlas Fade-O-Meter(Carbon Ark Light), the fastness is ranked at eight grades for simulating actual sun light exposure.(Larger number indicates stronger light fastness resistance)

Ink marked with # will show the grade under normal condition, but the fadness gets worse under moisturized condition with high humidity.

*Full/Tint=No mixture/Mixture of Ink and Medium(1:10)

**Printed Specimen was made by RI Tester, Roller was divided into 2 parts. Ink amount used is 0.15cc to 0.20cc for testing.

Acid Resistance:

After dipping a printed specimen into 2% H2SO4 solution at 20 to 25 Centigrade for 2 hours, the resistance is ranked at five different grades by the degree of color change.

Alkali Resistance:

After dipping a printed specimen into 1% NaOH solution at 20 to 25 Centigra e for 30 minutes, the resistance is ranked at five different grades by the degree of color change.

Soap Resistance:

After leaving 10% soap gel drops on printed specimen at 40 Centig ade for 1 hour, the resistance is ranked at five different grades by the degree of color change.

Solvent  Resistance:
A printed specimen is left  in a mixed solution of acetone, hyln  grycol monoethylether, ethyl acetate,  alcohol,
toluene for five minutes at 20 to 25  Centigrade. The evalua ionhould be done 48 hours  after the specimen gets

dried and set. The resistance is ranked at five different grades by the degree of color change.

Heat Resistance:

After heating a printed specimen in a dryer at 150 Centigrade for 30 minutes, the resistance is ranked at five different grades by the degree of color chan .

-Degree of Color Change-

1:  Extreme color change

2:  Considerable color cha ge

3:  Moderate color cha ge

4:  Slight color change

5:  No color change

How to check ‘’TACK’’(according to JIS K 5701 4.3.2)

Checking tack with a finished ink sample is performed as follows:

**Ink-O-Meter :400rpm for one minute, water temperature 32.0℃, room temperature 25.0℃

How to check ‘’FLOW’’(according to JIS K 5701 4.3.2)

Machine: Spread-O-Meter One minute, diameter(mm), room temperature 25.0℃

MEGAMIINK

How to check ‘’GRIND’’(according to JIS K 5701 4.3.2)

Using a standard NPIRI grind gauge, scrape the finished ink from top down using the STD scraper. Check the gauge where three lines or more appear on the surface of the scraped path. **A line should be a consecutive line and the length must be 10mm or more**

**One scale of a Grind-O-Meter: 2.5µm**

How to check ‘’SHADE’’

Place a master STD of ink on the left side of the paper and the sample you wish to QC on the right side. Scrape both colors simultaneously from top to bottom like ‘grind’ checking. Shades are checked by eyesight.

**We use the following paper when we check shade:

When we check colored ink, we use parchment paper.

When we check white ink, we use wood free paper that has a black belt in the middle to check transparency.**

How to check ‘’CURING’’

Take a specimen of finished ink and print it. Right af r printing, give it exposure to your UV curing unit. Curing is checked by the touch of a f nger over the ink film.

** To make a color specimen, we use a RI-Te ter(ink quantity:0.15cc)and a standard substrate**

UV lamp exposure: one high volume m rcury lump(80w/cm2) Distance between a lamp and a sp cim n: 10cm

Quantity of lighting: 50mj/cm
